Each day individuals go to work at jobs at locations that are not considered traditional workplaces. For many who live on the nation's coasts, their workplaces may be on the water. While it is possible to sustain an injury at any job, a different set of risks exists when one works as a seaman. A man from Mississippi is all too aware of this.

The man hurt his knee this past spring when he attempted to board the High Island 523C platform located in Louisiana coastal waters. To get to the platform, he reportedly had to swing from a Malloy G to a 5-plus deck that was wet and covered with algae. At the time the sea was apparently rough. In the process of getting to the deck he slipped which caused him to fall on the grating, hitting his left knee.

Last month the man filed a lawsuit against several defendants seeking monetary damages for his injury. In addition to the owners and operators, Pisces Energy LLC, Wood Group Production Services Inc. and Wood Group USA Inc, he also sued the company that transported him to the platform, Phil Guilbeau Offshore Inc.

In the petition he alleges the defendants made him swing to the platform in bad conditions and without inspecting the grating upon which he slipped.

The lawsuit was filed in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas. He is seeking a jury trial.

We will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as they become available.
